Protocol MCC

MCC may be defined as Mobile Country Code. A list of mobile country codes has been distinctly and clearly defined in the ITU E.212. In the tables provided in the ITU E.212, the country wise information can be seen i.e. there is information available through mobile country code pages. Separate mobile country codes are defined in ITU E.212.

This is also referred to as “Land Mobile Numbering Plan”. The prime function of the same is to help identify different mobile stations. This function is performed by MCC in the wireless telecommunication networks. The type of networks where this function is generally seen are GSM and UMTS.
The MCC also forms a part of IMSI. IMSI stands for International Mobile Subscriber Identity number. It is capable of independently and uniquely identifying a particular subscriber. It is then stored on a SIM card which is generally removable in nature.

A Mobile Country Code is often used in combination with Mobile Network Code which is also known as MNC. This is because a network operator needs to be identified uniquely. Additionally, when used along with an MNC, the other public land mobile networks need to be identified uniquely. These networks include iDEN, GSM, TETRA, CDMA and UMTS. Additionally, others networks involved include satellite mobile networks.
